CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES
American Sailing is seeking an Affiliate Relations Specialist to support the independently owned sailing schools that deliver ASA certifications around the world. You’ll work with a portfolio of small and mid-sized schools, building relationships with owners and operators and helping them stay connected to American Sailing.
This role combines responsive partner support with proactive outreach. You’ll help schools navigate day-to-day questions, stay current with annual renewals, and return to active certification when participation has declined. Your work will contribute to school retention and growth in student certifications.
You’ll report to the Director of Sailing Certification and Instruction.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary contact for your assigned schools, providing operational support and helping new affiliates get started.
- Maintain regular contact by phone, video, and email, keeping accurate records of outreach and follow-up in FileMaker.
- Coordinate annual renewals, including agreements, insurance documentation, dues payments, and school record updates. Follow up on outstanding items.
- Review affiliate survey results and school feedback, address individual concerns, and bring recurring issues to the Director.
- Identify inactive schools and those with declining activity, and develop outreach plans to help them resume or increase student certifications.
- Help coordinate support and relief materials for schools affected by hurricanes, wildfires, or other disasters.
- Monitor recreational boating requirements that may affect school operations and flag potential compliance concerns.
- Work with colleagues to coordinate school support and assist with other department projects.
Qualifications
- At least two years of experience in partner relations, franchise support, or a comparable role managing relationships with a network of external partners.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Strong relationship management and communication skills, with a patient, professional approach to working with independent business owners.
- The ability to manage a large portfolio of contacts, track details, and follow through on commitments.
- Comfort with CRM systems and standard office tools, along with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Experience in sailing, marine recreation, or outdoor education is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with ASA certifications and American Sailing’s affiliate school model is an advantage.
